NELP has a team of 55 staff people based across offices in New York City, Washington D.C., and Berkeley, CA, with a 12-person Board of Directors, an annual budget of $20M, and hundreds of partners in the field with whom we work to further our mission.

What You Will Do

You will be a critical member of our communications team. You will be responsible for guiding our teams set realistic deadlines and keeping them on track. You will support work that is based in NELP’s goals, narratives, and calls to action and often in response to breaking campaign news and the news cycle. The Production Manager is a part of the communications team and will work closely with NELP’s Program and Strategy teams.

The Production Manager works with the Communications Director to oversee and manage timelines for print publications, email communications, graphic design projects, fundraising materials, events and webinars, and other communications products as needed. The Manager will support the communications team by developing systems to set and meet realistic timelines and ensure adequate processes and resources, but will not be responsible for creating content or developing design.

You will specifically be responsible for the following:

  • Partnering with program and communication team staff to establish and set a reporting procedure for project timeline updates to share with the Communications Director.
  • Facilitating the creation and delivery of communications materials including: design, linear, social, digital, paid media, and more. The production manager works with NELP teams, partners, and vendors daily, ensuring effective and efficient workflow and communication.
  • Managing the budgets and workflows for these projects and handle interactions with outside vendors.
  • Modeling the effective use of project management tools and strategies including for meeting coordination, maintaining documentation practices, and managing project timelines.
  • Developing project management trainings for all staff to support communications content production and maintaining our editorial calendar.  
  • Supporting NELP’s communications team with annual work planning and implementation of this plan with quarterly, monthly, and weekly check-ins.
  • Supervising three members of the Comms team: a Senior Digital Communications Manager, Digital Marketing Manager, and Multimedia Designer.
     

Who You Are

  • You are an outstanding communicator with at least five years of experience working in a project management function. You have experience managing several projects from the planning to closing phases.
  • You have at least three years of supervisorial experience and are skilled in cultivating a positive team dynamic, including developing, coaching, and empowering staff to grow and develop professionally.
  • You are a leader who builds relationships that foster trust and transparency across lines of difference by listening deeply and offering direct, honest feedback with compassion and clarity of purpose.
  • You are comfortable with setting expectations and deadlines.
  • You have experience developing and implementing workflow systems.
  • You have worked well under long, medium, and short-term deadlines and know when each is appropriate and doable while respecting team capacity.
  • You demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills. You have experience managing multiple deadlines.
  • You are tech savvy. Ideally, you have hands-on experience working with project management systems like Salesforce, Monday, Airtable, and or Asana. We use several organization-wide and the communications team manages projects on Monday.com.
  • You have strong racial equity competencies and center your role in an analysis and understanding of how race and power shape systems in our society and culture and you are continuously learning, reflecting, and growing.  
  • You are self-aware, curious, and respectful with strong interpersonal skills fostering a sense of purpose and community and have high standards for holding yourself and others accountable. 
  • You operate with a commitment to excellence, integrity, diplomacy, and camaraderie. 
  • Must be eligible and authorized to work in the United States.

 

Start Date, Location, Compensation and Benefits:  In response to the pandemic, all staff are currently working remotely and are not traveling. When conditions are amenable, the position will require some travel, primarily for NELP internal meetings or conferences, but travel is not a significant part of your job. Candidates must be able to work from either our New York City or Washington D.C. office.  NELP currently offers voluntary access to all office locations. When NELP returns to working in the physical office, staff may choose to work remotely up to two days per week; this hybrid model seeks to leverage both the benefits of working with colleagues in person and the benefits of flexible remote arrangements. The remote start date will be as soon as possible.

This position is in NELP’s bargaining unit, represented by National Organization of Legal Service Workers, UAW Local 2320. Classification and compensation for NELP bargaining unit positions is commensurate with relevant experience and education and based on NELP’s collectively bargained scales. Based on our union scale, here are some examples of salaries for this position:

  • with a relevant Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience, the salary will be $86,400;
  • with a relevant Bachelor’s degree and 15 years of relevant experience, the salary will be $98,700;
  • with a relevant Master’s degree and 11 years of post-graduate relevant experience, the salary will be $101,300.

Based on the union scale, if an individual candidate’s education or experience is higher than an example, the salary will be higher; conversely, with less education or experience, the salary is lower.

Compensation also includes an excellent comprehensive benefits package, including full coverage of family health insurance, a medical reimbursement plan, generous vacation and sick leave, plus additional organization-wide holidays, significant contribution from employer to a retirement plan (both an unelected contribution and employer match), 12 weeks paid parental leave, and student loan repayment assistance for qualifying participants.
